Abraham Lincoln was an American politician and the president of United States from 1861 to 1865. When he became president his aim was to abolish slavery and the confederation, which defended it, left Union and the American civil war started. Abraham led Union to victory and he became very popular in the US.
He died in 1865 in Washington while he was watching a theater play with his wife, major Henry Rathbone and Rathbone's fiancé. During the show John Wilkes Booth, a supporter of confederation, rushed into their dock and shot Lincoln once to the back of the head. There was no bodyguards in the dock at the moment so major Rathbone tried to stop Booth but Booth managed to stab him. After that Booth escaped and hid for 12 days. He was found on a farm in Virginia and after refusing to surrender to Union troops he was killed too.
Lincoln died a day after the assassination and became the first murdered president in the history of USA.
